Care workers are restricted to bring dependants ( Partners /Children) on their visa

How does the new immigration change affect the care workers and care providers?

Home office published the five point immigration plan in 4th  December 2023 that highlighted the timeline of changes affecting the health and social care workers; 11th march was the date that where the change came in to the action.

What are the reason for these changes?

Home Secretary announced that these changes were being made to control the non compliance, worker exploitation and abuse as well and the rising demand of applicants coming under this rouse with dependents was simply unsustainable. This is also aimed at supporting the government’s target of reducing the migration numbers to UK by around 300,000.

What are the major changes?

  • From 11th march 2024, care workers (SOC 6145) and senior care workers (SOC 6146) won’t be able to bring the dependents when they migrate to United Kingdom.
  • Only CQC registered providers in England will be able to sponsor health and care visa applicants.

Who is not affected by these changes?

Care workers already in the route will be able to extend their permission with the same sponsor, and settle, without the CQC regulation requirement applying to them.

  • On the positive side, healthcare workers are not affected by the minimum salary threshold that is going to affect skilled workers from 4th April. Their salary requiments will continue to remain £26, 200 .
  • Also Holders of this visa will still be exempt from paying the immigration health surcharge (IHS).
